Israel Shuts Palestinian Crossings Amid US, Israel Joint Strikes on Iran
(MENAFN) Israel announced Saturday that all crossings in the Palestinian territories will be closed starting Sunday until further notice, following the ongoing joint US-Israel attacks on Iran.
The decision came from the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), which stated, “In conclusion of a situation assessment, and following the operation launched by the Israeli and American armies (against Iran), it was decided to close all crossings in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, including the Rafah crossing, as of tomorrow and until further notice.”
The statement clarified that the restriction applies to all Palestinians except those holding “vital worker” permits, who will be allowed to use certain unspecified crossings. Officials claimed that the closure of Gaza crossings “will not affect the humanitarian situation” in the enclave.
Earlier, residents reported explosions and missile debris falling across several areas of the occupied West Bank shortly after sirens sounded in Israeli settlements, according to observers. Palestinian police spokesperson Luay Arziqat confirmed that missile fragments landed in four separate locations, but no injuries or damage were reported.
The US and Israel launched their joint strike on Iran Saturday, citing the need to eliminate perceived “threats” from the Iranian “regime.” In retaliation, Iran targeted Israel and US military bases in the region with missiles and drones.
Israel subsequently declared a “special and immediate state of emergency” nationwide, while Iran promised a “harsh response,” continuing its missile and drone attacks on regional targets.
