China Announces Visa-Free Access for British, Canadian Nationals

(MENAFN) China unveiled a significant policy shift Sunday, announcing visa-free access for British and Canadian nationals beginning next week.

The Foreign Ministry confirmed the expansion in an official statement, declaring: "To further facilitate cross-border travel, China decides to, starting from February 17, 2026, extend its visa waiver policy to ordinary passport holders from Canada and the UK."

The liberalized entry framework permits passport holders from both nations to enter and remain in China without visa documentation for periods up to 30 days. "Ordinary passport holders from the two countries can be exempted from visa to enter China and stay for up to 30 days for business, tourism, family/friends visit, exchange and transit purposes. The policy will be effective until December 31, 2026."

The diplomatic breakthrough follows bilateral agreements secured during separate high-level visits last month. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer each negotiated people-to-people exchange frameworks during their respective trips to China, laying groundwork for the reciprocal travel arrangement.

The temporary measure runs through the end of 2026, covering business travel, leisure tourism, personal visits, cultural exchanges, and transit purposes.
