Russia Shoots Down 67 Ukrainian Drones In Overnight Operation
Russia's Defence Ministry said on Monday that its air‐defence systems intercepted 67 fixed‐wing Ukrainian drones overnight in what Moscow called a“cross‐border provocation.”
According to the ministry's statement, 24 drones were destroyed over Russia's Bryansk region, with the remainder shot down across several other provinces including Saratov, Rostov, Volgograd, Moscow, Kursk, Tula, Leningrad, Smolensk, Oryol and Kaluga.
Russian military officials described the intercepted drones as part of a renewed Ukrainian campaign targeting Russian border territories. Russian air‐defence alerts prompted temporary flight restrictions at multiple airports, including major hubs around Moscow.
The drone interceptions follow a broader pattern of intensified aerial threats between Kyiv and Moscow. Earlier in the year, Russia claimed to have downed large numbers of Ukrainian drones during similar overnight raids.
Moscow said no casualties or significant infrastructure damage had been reported as a result of this overnight interception operation.
The reported drone interception comes while diplomatic efforts to negotiate a ceasefire continue. U.S. and European envoys have reiterated calls for de-escalation even as weaponised drone exchanges intensify.
Analysts warn that frequent drone strikes and counter‐strikes increase the risk of miscalculation, potentially drawing civilian areas deeper into the conflict and undermining fragile peace talks.
Meanwhile, Kyiv to maintain its defence strategy, and Moscow to protect border security, but continuing drone warfare complicates any path toward lasting truce.
