Amman, Dec. 3 (Petra) – Public Security Directorate (PSD) Director Maj. Gen. Obeidallah Maaytah took part on Wednesday in the 49th Arab Police and Security Leaders Conference, held in Tunis with the participation of senior police and security officials from across the Arab world. The meeting focused on strengthening regional security cooperation, harmonizing Arab security policies, and exchanging expertise to address fast-evolving challenges.
During the conference sessions, Maj. Gen. Maaytah underlined the importance of unified Arab efforts to combat emerging forms of crime, tackle cyber-security threats, electronic fraud and narcotics offenses particularly synthetic drugs and their rising dangers and to integrate artificial intelligence technologies into policing systems.
He stressed the need to enhance the exchange of information and expertise and to strengthen the complementarity of roles among Arab security agencies, drawing on the Hashemite leadership's approach rooted in cooperation and Arab solidarity. He said mounting security challenges require deeper coordination and more effective partnerships, making the conference a key platform for advancing joint Arab security frameworks.
On the sidelines of the event, Maj. Gen. Maaytah held a series of bilateral meetings with Arab security officials, beginning with Secretary-General of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers Mohammad bin Ali Koman. Talks covered prospects for security cooperation, developing unified Arab policing, and discussing training programs and future initiatives overseen by the council to build the capacities of police agencies in member states.
Maaytah also met Iraqi Deputy Interior Minister for Police Affairs Lt. Gen. Hadi Rzeij Khanshal; Palestinian Police Director-General Maj. Gen. Allam Al-Saqqa; Tunisian National Security Director-General Mourad Saidane; Sudanese Police Forces Director-General Gen. Amir Abdulmunem Hussein; Comoros Police and National Security Director-General Brig. Nasif Kissan; and Europol Deputy Executive Director Jürgen Ebner.
Discussions focused on cooperation, training and operational coordination, as well as boosting joint efforts to combat crime in all its forms, in line with regional security developments.
Maj. Gen. Maaytah said the Arab security landscape forms a single, integrated system and reaffirmed Jordan's continued commitment to advancing Arab security cooperation, sharing expertise and building effective partnerships to strengthen joint policing capabilities and help address current and future challenges.
He also received several awards earned by the Public Security Directorate, including the award for Best Film on the Importance of Volunteering in Crime Prevention for Jordan, Best Film on the Safe Use of Artificial Intelligence Applications, and Best Film highlighting the humanitarian role of police officers.
