Qatar University, Exxonmobil Qatar Organise STEM Academy Forum
Qatar University (QU), through the National Center for Educational Development (NCED) at the College of Education, organised the QU–ExxonMobil STEM Academy Forum for teachers under the theme 'From Theory to Empowerment... Education Leading the Future.'
The event brought together teachers, educational specialists, and experts in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The forum marked the conclusion of the 11th edition of the Academy, which aims to support teachers' professional development and empower them to adopt innovative instructional practices that promote active learning and creative thinking among students.
The forum serves as a platform for educators and specialists to exchange experiences and discuss best educational practices in alignment with national efforts to advance Qatar's educational system and enhance innovation. It contributes to preparing students capable of leading the nation's scientific and technological future in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
Hosted in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) and ExxonMobil Qatar-the Academy's strategic partner since its establishment in 2012-the forum highlighted the outcomes of 15 applied STEM projects implemented by teachers during the 2024–2025 academic year.
Prof. Asma Abdullah al-Attiyah, dean of the College of Education at QU, said: "We take pride in the QUESTA Academy's notable impact in enabling teachers and equipping them with the latest pedagogical practices in STEM, fully aligned with the national direction toward building a knowledge-based economy driven by creativity and innovation.”
Dr Huda al-Kubaisi, director of NCED, explained that the forum showcased the results of approximately 15 STEM-based projects implemented in schools, along with seven concurrent training workshops and a panel discussion featuring experts from the University of Doha for Science and Technology, the MoEHE, and Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School titled 'A Forward-Looking Vision for the Future of STEM Education in Qatar.' The academy graduated 55 teachers this year, Dr al-Kubaisi stated while appreciating all partners.
Engineer Rashid bin Rashid al-Hajri, vice president and manager of Public and Government Affairs at ExxonMobil Qatar, said:“Empowering teachers is a foundational step toward equipping an entire generation of students with the tools necessary for critical thinking and innovation, contributing to shaping a sustainable future for Qatar.”
