US Army Secretary discuss Ukraine-Russia peace deal with Ukraine
(MENAFN) US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll traveled to Abu Dhabi on Monday for discussions involving Ukraine’s military intelligence head and a Russian delegation, aimed at negotiating a potential peace agreement to end the ongoing war, according to reports.
The talks reportedly began Monday evening and were scheduled to continue into Tuesday, sources familiar with the meetings said. Driscoll was expected to meet with Kyrylo Budanov, the chief of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR).
These Abu Dhabi discussions followed recent progress in talks between Ukrainian and US officials in Geneva over the weekend. A US official told reporters, "Driscoll has been involved with this peace process pretty hot and heavy in the past few days," adding, "He’s been obviously very involved, so he’s able to kind of communicate that piece” to Russia.
It remained unclear whether the three parties were meeting together or conducting separate sessions, the report noted.
