Less Than One-Third Of Vulnerable Donetsk Region Residents Agree To Evacuate, Authorities Say

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) This was reported during an online briefing by Dmytro Pozharskyi, Deputy Head of the Department and Head of the Social Services Division of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration's Department of Social Protection, an Ukrinform correspondent notes.

“Today, we have 1,141 single low-mobility individuals living in the region... Of this number, 306 people say they are willing to evacuate, but only in the event of a sharp deterioration in the security situation. All the others, unfortunately, have not yet agreed to evacuation. Our social workers are trying every day to persuade them,” Pozharskyi said.

He also noted that over the past week, evacuees from Donetsk region were resettled in Kirovohrad, Lviv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Khmelnytskyi regions.

“During the week, 36 people asked to be resettled – and all of them were resettled. Of these, 12 were low-mobility individuals. The largest number - 29 people - went to Kirovohrad region, where they will be accommodated in local communities. Among them were two large families: one with five children and one with three,” the official added.

He stated that all evacuees received financial and humanitarian assistance, transport services, and psychological support, as well as medical care for those who needed it.

Pozharskyi explained that the number of evacuees last week was lower than usual.“It comes in waves - we can see that from the numbers. Nothing unusual,” he said. He added that some people were waiting for the start of the heating season to see whether their radiators would work properly and whether there would be problems with neighbors.

“In general, the number of people evacuating from the region remains high, but last week only 36 people needed accommodation. Many have relatives or rented housing elsewhere. No issues - if someone needs assistance and free accommodation, we will help. There are places available, and more are being prepared. Everything is under control,” Pozharskyi assured.
