Brazilian Publishers Attend Conference In Sharjah


(MENAFN- Brazil-Arab News Agency (ANBA)) São Paulo – Brazilian publishers are participating this week in the 15th Sharjah Publishers Conference, held ahead of the Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF ) in the United Arab Emirates. From Sunday (2) to Tuesday (4), representatives from 15 companies are attending lectures and business meetings as part of a program organized by the Brazilian Publishers project, spearheaded by the Brazilian Book Chamber and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil) to promote Brazilian literature abroad.

According to the project, Sunday was entirely dedicated to workshops and lectures. Monday (3) and Tuesday focus on business meetings. On Monday, the Brazilian delegation also visits the House of Wisdom, Sharjah's national library. According to the Conference organizers, some of this year's panel and lecture topics include the use of artificial intelligence in publishing, audiobooks, leadership, and marketing.

The Brazilian delegation includes publishing houses Aleph, Árvore, Barbante, Boitempo, Companhia das Letras, Melhoramentos, Nacional, Next Group, Pingue Pongue, Pop Stories, Rua do Sabão, Ruth Rocha, Solisluna, Tabla, and Telos.

One of the highlights of the Conference, according to Brazilian Publishers, is the SIBF Translation Grant, a USD 300,000 fund available for translation and publishing rights agreements signed during the book fair.

For the president of the Brazilian Book Chamber (CBL), Sevani Matos, the Sharjah Publishers Conference is an opportunity for Brazilian companies to strengthen Brazil's image in the international market.“The initiative reinforces our commitment to expanding the visibility of Brazilian literary production and fostering new business opportunities for national publishers,” she was quoted as saying in the Brazilian Publishers statement.

The CBL's and Brazilian Publishers' International Relations coordinator, Rayanna Pereira, said this is an opportunity to strengthen ties with the Arab market and pave the way for the internationalization of Brazilian books.“The B2B sessions and meetings provide valuable connections and exchanges that drive the industry forward.” The Sharjah International Book Fair officially begins on Wednesday (5) and runs until November 16.
