Hakan Fidan Meets with Iraqi President


(MENAFN) On Sunday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a meeting with Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid, according to Turkish diplomatic sources.

This meeting took place as part of Fidan's official visit to Baghdad, during which he also held separate talks with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud al-Mashhadani and the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faiq Zaidan.

In an official statement, the Iraqi presidency confirmed that President Abdul Latif Rashid welcomed Minister Fidan and his delegation at the Baghdad Palace.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein.

The discussions primarily focused on enhancing the relationship between Iraq and Turkey, touching on various aspects of cooperation, as well as addressing regional concerns. Both sides also reviewed efforts to strengthen regional security and stability.

During the conversation, President Rashid reiterated Iraq's commitment to an open-door policy aimed at building partnerships and cultivating positive relations with both regional and international partners.

He also emphasized that respect for sovereignty and prioritizing shared interests are core principles of Iraq’s foreign policy.

Furthermore, President Rashid advocated for the establishment of a fair water-sharing agreement to protect Iraq’s rights to the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers.

He stressed the importance of adopting improved water management strategies to reduce waste and ensure sustainable usage of water resources.
