Trump Describes Putin, Xi as Tough, Smart

(MENAFN) In a recent ‘60 Minutes’ interview on CBS, US President Donald Trump spoke highly of Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, describing both as “very strong leaders.”

Trump emphasized their qualities, labeling them as “tough,” “smart,” and warning that they are not leaders to be “toyed with.”

This interview, which aired on Sunday, marked Trump's first appearance on the show in five years, following a previous exit where he accused CBS of bias.

When asked which of the two leaders was more difficult to deal with, Trump responded, “Both.”

He elaborated, stating, “Both tough. Both smart. Both – look, they’re both very strong leaders. These are people not to be toyed with. These are people you have to take very seriously.”

Trump further added that neither Putin nor Xi engages in casual conversation, highlighting their serious, no-nonsense demeanor.

"They’re not – they’re not walking in saying, ‘Oh, isn’t it a beautiful day? Look how beautiful. The Sun is shining, it’s so nice.’ These are serious people. These are people that are tough, smart leaders,” he said.

Trump also touched on the topic of nuclear weapons, noting that both Russia and China possess large stockpiles.

He mentioned that he has discussed denuclearization with both countries. In terms of US-China relations, Trump acknowledged the challenges but emphasized that he and President Xi “get along great.”

He expressed satisfaction with the trade deal reached between the two nations, stating, “We got no rare-earth threat… We have tremendous amounts of dollars pouring in, because we have very big tariffs, almost 50%.”
