(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Nov 1 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Saturday affirmed that inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is a unique and extraordinary event, an edifice awarded by the nation to peoples of the world.
Speaking at a news conference ahead of the inauguration ceremony at the museum's premises, the prime minister said the museum is an international landmark presented by Egypt as a gift to the globe.. it is from a state history of which spans more than 7,000 years, from the a land that incubated civilians that contributed to forming the history of the human race."
The notion of building the museum dates back to some 30 years ago when preliminary procedures began and a series of technical studies were conducted. Also at the time, an architectural contest was organized to choose the best design for the venture.
Work for executing the project had deadlocked in 2011 due to the domestic events, but later the work resumed upon directions by President Abdelfattah Elsisi, he said, indicating that the work intensified over the past seven years.
Later tonight, the Egyptian president is scheduled to open the museum with attendance of 79 official delegations, including a delegation headed by the Representative of His Highness the Amir of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
