However, before achieving fame, the project looked very different. In March 2021, Sony Pictures Animation shared one of the first sketches of the film. Then, in February 2024, visual effects artist Matthew McDonald reposted that concept image on his official X account.
That initial artwork shows the three protagonists in a 2D version with angular lines. They are seen from behind in a packed stadium.
The illustration also features the girls' hidden weapons and the figure of the main villain, who watches them from above.
Differences between the original design and the final styleThe first design was a departure from the current three-dimensional style. The drawing opted for a more pronounced and stylized approach.
Changes can also be seen in the warriors' hairstyles and clothing. Each character underwent visual modifications during the development of the film.
