Ghana Earns 8 Bln USD From Gold Exports In 10 Months
Accra: The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced that at least 8 billion U.S. dollars were generated from gold exports since January to boost the country's foreign exchange reserves.
"The GoldBod and the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) have generated over 8 billion dollars in foreign exchange from Ghana's small-scale gold export between January and Oct. 15, 2025," the statement said.
The state agency, with exclusive rights to regulate gold trading in the country, said the revenue accrued from the export of 81,719.23 kg of gold valued at 8.06 billion dollars from the small-scale mining sector, compared with the 2024 figure of 4.61 billion dollars.
The regulatory body attributed this performance to several factors, including aggressive reforms, strict regulatory oversight, tightening regulatory control over the gold supply chain to prevent smuggling, and ensuring compliance, among others.
The GoldBod was established in March as the sole regulator for the trade in gold in Ghana, subsuming the functions of the PMMC, which had been regulating the small-scale mining sector since 1963.
Ghana is Africa's leading producer of gold, exporting at least 4.8 million ounces (roughly 136 metric tonnes) of the yellow metal in 2024.
