Two French Nationals Handed Prison Terms in Iran for Spying

(MENAFN) Iran has sentenced two French citizens accused of spying, according to Mizan, the Iranian judiciary’s news agency, which released the details on Tuesday.

The pair, detained in March 2023, faced espionage allegations connected to French intelligence and accused of collaborating with Israeli intelligence, the report said. Their legal representatives have been notified of the initial verdicts following seven court sessions.

Mizan stated the charges include “espionage on behalf of the French intelligence service, collusion to perpetrate crimes against Iran's national security and intelligence cooperation with Israel.”

One defendant received six years imprisonment for spying for French intelligence, five years for collusion against Iran’s national security, and 20 years of internal exile for working with Israeli intelligence. The other was sentenced to 10 years for espionage, five years for collusion, and 17 years for collaborating with Israel.

Both defendants have a 20-day window to appeal the sentences before Iran’s Supreme Court.
