Two Israelis Soldiers Shot Dead In Attack At Allenby Bridge Crossing

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Two Israeli soldiers were shot dead Thursday in an attack at the Allenby Bridge crossing with Jordan, prompting closure of the key route and heightening regional tensions.

Two Israeli citizens were killed on Thursday in a shooting at the Allenby Bridge crossing, the main route between the occupied West Bank and Jordan.

Israeli emergency services told Reuters that the men were critically wounded during the attack and later died in hospital. Security forces shot and killed the assailant.

The Israeli military said the attacker had arrived in a truck carrying humanitarian aid from Jordan and then opened fire on Israeli personnel at the checkpoint.

A Jordanian government spokesman confirmed Amman was monitoring the situation closely, but no group has claimed responsibility for the assault. Hamas, however, claimed a separate shooting near Jerusalem earlier this month that killed six.

Officials in Amman said the Allenby Bridge crossing, which also serves as a major trade route between Jordan and Israel, was closed following Thursday's incident.

In September 2024, a Jordanian gunman killed three Israelis at the same crossing before being shot dead, prompting Israel to shut the crossing for two days.

The latest attack underscores the fragile security surrounding one of the region's most sensitive border points, where both travel and trade have now been disrupted.

With violence escalating in Israel and the occupied territories, the Allenby Bridge incident risks worsening already high tensions and destabilising a critical regional gateway.
