Thousands Join March in Spain to Protest Gaza Genocide
(MENAFN) Thousands of demonstrators filled public squares in 12 Spanish cities on Tuesday, condemning Israel’s continuing military actions in the Gaza Strip and voicing unwavering support for the Palestinian people.
The coordinated protests were organized by the Solidarity Network Against the Occupation of Palestine (RESCOP), aiming to denounce what organizers describe as relentless and deadly Israeli operations in Gaza.
In Madrid, crowds packed the iconic Puerta del Sol, many waving Palestinian flags and holding signs bearing messages such as “Stop the genocide.” Demonstrators also shouted chants like “Free Palestine,” echoing through the capital as well as in parallel demonstrations in Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, and nine other cities nationwide.
The surge in protests came just one day after the Spanish government unveiled a series of nine punitive measures against Israel — including a definitive halt to arms exports — which Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said were designed to curb what he described as the “genocide in Gaza.”
Since October 2023, more than 64,500 Palestinians have reportedly been killed in Gaza amid an ongoing Israeli genocidal campaign that has decimated the densely populated enclave.
In November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, charging both with war crimes and crimes against humanity linked to the Gaza conflict.
Israel also remains the subject of a separate genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), underscoring the mounting international legal scrutiny of its actions in the Palestinian territory.
