OIC Sympathizes With Sudan Over Landslide Victims

JEDDAH, Sept 2 (KUNA) -- The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation expressed Tuesday sympathy and solidarity with Sudanese government and people after the devastating landslide in the Northern Darfur Province.
In a statement, the OIC also offered condolences to families of the victims and wished the injured speedy recovery as well as success for the rescue operations to the missing and stranded people.
The pan-Muslim organization appealed to member states and humanitarian organizations to send urgent relief aid to the affected people in Sudan.
The massive landslide in Northern Darfur has killed more than 1,000 people. The disaster struck Sunday after days of heavy rain, devastating the village of Tarasin in the Marra mountains. (end)
