GCC Ministerial Council: Intensified Efforts To Implement GCC-Japan Action Plan

KUWAIT, Sept 1 (KUNA) -- The Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) praised on Monday the results of the joint ministerial meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya, emphasizing the importance of achieving the agreed upon action plan between the two sides.
This came in a statement by the Council of Ministers following the 165th session attended by member states foreign ministers and heads of states, as well as the second Japan-GCC dialogue.
The council welcomed the cooperation between the United Nations and the GCC, which reflects the high status enjoyed by the Council as an active regional partner in supporting international peace and security.
During the meeting, the council discussed the latest regional and international developments and issues, reaffirming its steadfast position regarding these matters.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, the council affirmed the UN General Assembly resolution regarding an immediate ceasefire, enabling civilians to access basic services and humanitarian aid without obstacle, as well as rejecting their displacement or removal.
Additionally, the council emphasized the need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip to ensure the release of hostages and prisoners, while protecting civilian and delivering urgent humanitarian aid, praising the mediation efforts of Qatar and Egypt.
The ministerial council condemned the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, and its attacks on international organizations and aid convoys, as well as rejected any attempts to annex part of Gaza, emphasizing the importance of unifying Gaza and the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority.
It stressed the need for international community to suspend the delivery of military equipment and assistance to the Israeli occupation, in accordance with international and humanitarian law.
The council reaffirmed its firm position regarding the ending of the Israeli occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.
It praised the success of the high-level conference on settling the Palestinian issue through peaceful solutions, and implementing the two-state solution, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia.
The ministerial council condemned the Israeli occupation's settlement plans in the E1 area as a serious escalation aimed at diving the West Bank, as well as the acts of violence perpetrated by settlers against the civilians with protection from the occupation forces. (more)
