Israel murders Hezbollah member in new attack on Lebanon
(MENAFN) A member of Hezbollah was killed on Sunday when an Israeli airstrike struck southern Lebanon, according to local sources.
Reports indicate that an Israeli drone targeted a motorcycle on the Nabatieh Al-Fawqa road with a guided missile. Lebanese army intelligence identified the deceased as Ali Tawba, a Hezbollah member from the village of Maifadoun.
Eyewitnesses and Lebanese officials said that Israeli drones and warplanes carried out several additional strikes throughout southern Lebanon, including areas deeper in the region, focusing on Hezbollah positions that have been previously targeted in similar operations.
The attacks led to the temporary closure of the main road connecting the southern border areas to the Nabatieh region, with the Lebanese army currently working to reopen it.
Since November 27, 2024, a U.S.- and French-mediated ceasefire has been in place between Israel and Hezbollah, ending more than a year of cross-border hostilities. The agreement required Israeli forces to withdraw from southern Lebanon; however, Israel has maintained several posts near the border and continues operations citing alleged threats from Hezbollah. Recent reports suggest the Israeli military is also establishing new positions along the southern Lebanese frontier.
