Team Luqtaifiya Crowned Champions Of Imams And Muezzins Football Tournament

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs concluded the first edition of the Imams, Muezzins, and Their Sons Football Tournament with the Luqtaifiya team lifting the championship cup on Saturday evening at the Ministry's sports grounds in Abu Hamour.

The final match, which brought together Luqtaifiya and Al-Nasr, was attended by Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs H E Ghanem bin Shaheen bin Ghanem Al Ghanim and Undersecretary of the Ministry H E Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al Thani. The tournament, organised by the Public Relations and Communication Department, featured 20 teams competing over three weeks.

As part of the closing ceremony, individual awards were also presented: Abdullah Al-Hammami of Luqtaifiya was named Best Player, while goalkeeper Bilal Abdulrahman Mohammed won Best Goalkeeper, and his brother Abdullah Mohammed Hussein of Al-Hilal emerged as Top Scorer with 16 goals.

Senior ministry officials were also present, including Director of the Public Relations and Communication Department Ahmed bin Shaheen Al Ghanem, Assistant Director of the Department Hassan bin Mohammed Al-Obaidly, Director of the Mosques Department Dr. Sulaiman bin Jumaan Al-Qahtani, and Assistant Director of the Mosques Department Mohammed bin Abdul Latif Al-Mahmoud, along with a wide audience of imams, muezzins, and their families.

The Ministry emphasised that the tournament reflects its commitment to strengthening social ties among imams, muezzins, and their families, while encouraging active participation in sports. The initiative also aligns with the Islamic values of physical strength coupled with faith and ethics, as well as the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030, which promotes sports as a lifestyle and a source of well-being.

The competitions, held in a safe and healthy environment, were marked by high levels of sportsmanship and mutual respect. Director of Public Relations and Communication Ahmed bin Shaheen Al Ghanem, expressed pride in the success of the first edition, thanking the Minister and Undersecretary for their presence and support.

“This tournament has helped foster a spirit of cooperation and brotherhood among imams, muezzins, and their families. It also showcased the Ministry's commitment to community engagement and to channelling the energies of its members into meaningful and constructive activities,” he said.

The Ministry concluded by noting that the championship is more than just a sports competition, describing it as a message that bridges the spiritual and physical dimensions of life.
