Germany Keen To Bolster Economic And Investment Ties With Qatar, Says Envoy
Doha, Qatar: Qatar and Germany are keen to bolster business and investment partnerships, building on decades of economic collaboration, an official has said.
During the Qatar-Germany Business Meeting held at the Qatar Chamber headquarters yesterday, Ambassador (ret.) H E Hans-Udo Muzel, Chargé d'Affaires a.i. at the German Embassy in Doha, emphasised the country's role as the largest Arab investor in Germany and highlighted emerging opportunities for German companies in sectors such as technology, manufacturing, and infrastructure, as both nations look to expand trade and deepen strategic cooperation.
Speaking to The Peninsula on the occasion, the Ambassador reaffirmed the strength of relations between the two nations, noting that both sides are preparing for a“fresh start” with expanded political and economic cooperation. Ambassador Muzel said,“We are the first ones. We are looking forward to a fresh start. We also look forward to enhanced relations because we anticipate very high-ranking visits from the Qatari government to Germany.”

The Ambassador revealed that a strategic dialogue between Qatar and Germany is scheduled to take place later this year with high-level delegates set to attend the meeting and underscored Qatar's trust in the German economy and political system.“We deeply value Qatar's trust in the German economy, German business, and also certainly in our political system because you (Qatar) are the biggest Arab investor in Germany,” he said.
Qatar's investments in Germany span across listed blue-chip corporations as well as small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which the Ambassador described as“the backbone of the German industry” and highlighted this as a sign of Qatar's confidence in Germany's diverse industrial landscape.
The official accentuated that Germany has been engaged with the Gulf region for over 150 years, but the arrival of a new government in Berlin marks a renewed chapter.“With the new Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the new Minister of Economy, we look forward to enhanced cooperation with Qatar in all fields,” Ambassador Muzel said.
The Ambassador underlined that Chancellor Merz has already spoken with H H the Amir on three occasions, which is“a sign of the depth and momentum” of bilateral relations.
Beyond economics, he praised Qatar's diplomatic role in the Middle East, particularly its efforts to mediate conflicts.“We are grateful for the mediation efforts by Qatar in helping to stabilise the situation in Gaza and the wider region,” he said.
On the commercial front, he expounded that cooperation must flow both ways. While Qatar has been active in investing in Germany, German companies are also seeking greater opportunities in Qatar.“You (Qatar) offer a great infrastructure, a great environment for doing this. I think it's one of the best in the Gulf,” he remarked.
He also pointed to technology and innovation, especially artificial intelligence and IT, as areas ripe for collaboration.
Ambassador Muzel added,“What we do is not only to offer IT, we connect IT with real-life manufacturing processes, machinery, and construction because software alone is not enough.” With both sides preparing for high-level visits and strategic talks, the official expressed optimism that Qatar-Germany relations will continue to strengthen across political, economic, and technological spheres.
