Bumble CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd Working On AI-Powered Dating App

Whitney Wolfe Herd, co-founder of dating apps Tinder and Bumble, has revealed that she and her husband often joke about how she“would never have swiped right on his dating profile.” In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the CEO of Bumble made this "confession" while talking about her new AI dating app.“He wore ski goggles in a photo. Who does that?” Wolfe Herd said.

In order to build "the world's smartest and most emotionally intelligent matchmaker in existence," she is spearheading a covert project at Bumble that is developing the new software. Her notion that AI can better comprehend consumers than they can, resulting in more successful pairings, is the foundation of the app.

Typically, dating apps use swipe-based selections based on characteristics like political beliefs, height, or photographs. However, by building profiles based on users' responses on previous relationships, breakups, and dating experiences, Bumble's new app will refocus its attention on deeper insights. Wolfe Herd stated that in order to develop the matching AI, she and her team had spoken with professional psychiatrists and relationship therapists.

This autumn, a beta version of the new app-which will be distinct from the current Bumble platform-will be made available to a limited number of users. According to the source, this new AI dating app is being built as a huge language model that uses attachment theory to comprehend users' relationship types.

Although the app's monetisation strategies and match frequency are still up in the air, when it is finished, it will generate profiles, recommend matches, and even assist with scheduling dates. In addition, Wolfe Herd revealed her intentions to improve the current Bumble app by fixing issues that arose during its first public offering (IPO), when excessive advertising brought in unsuitable individuals. Since successful connections tend to decrease long-term usage, the app will now promote better profiles while still needing a constant stream of new users, she said.

This AI-driven idea for dating applications is not exclusive to Wolfe Herd. Mike Krieger, the current chief product officer of Anthropic and co-founder of Instagram, was asked by a venture capitalist at a conference on the future of AI in San Francisco in June what sort of consumer app he would want to see developed utilising Anthropic's AI chatbot. A dating app was one of his answers.
