UN spokesperson states almost two million Pakistanis return from Iran, Pakistan
(MENAFN) Since the start of 2025, 1.7 million Afghan citizens have returned from Iran and Pakistan, UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said Friday. Most returnees have limited connections to local communities and face difficulties finding shelter and economic opportunities, while host communities also lack sufficient resources and services.
To aid the situation, the UN Central Emergency Response Fund has released $10 million, with additional support expected from the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund**. The UN is also preparing for further returns after Pakistan’s government set a September 1 deadline for Afghan Proof of Registration cardholders to leave the country.
