South Korea Poised to Reactivate Shin-Hanul 2 Reactor

(MENAFN) South Korea’s Shin-Hanul 2 nuclear reactor is set to resume operations after the country’s Nuclear Safety and Security Commission gave the green light on Thursday.

A Seoul-based news agency reported the reactor had been offline since March due to two malfunctions.

Repairs began on April 20 following a coolant leak detected on March 12 and a subsequent gas leak two days later.

During the maintenance process, Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. identified a defect in one of the reactor’s fuel rods and took immediate corrective action.

The commission confirmed inspections of 88 safety-related components have been completed, with 11 additional follow-up tests scheduled before full operation resumes.
