Arab, Turkish Foreign Ministers Hold Intensive Talks On Syria's Future
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, July 17 (Petra) -- Foreign Ministers from Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, and Egypt held intensive discussions over the past two days regarding developments in Syria.
The talks aimed to consolidate a unified stance and joint efforts to support the Syrian government in its endeavors to rebuild the country on foundations that ensure its security, stability, unity, sovereignty, and the rights of all its citizens.
In a joint statement, the ministers affirmed their support for Syria's security, unity, stability, and sovereignty, alongside a rejection of all external interference in its internal affairs.
They welcomed the agreement reached to end the crisis in Sweida Governorate, emphasizing the necessity of its implementation to protect Syria and its unity, its citizens, prevent bloodshed, ensure civilian protection, uphold state sovereignty and the rule of law.
The ministers also welcomed Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara's commitment to hold accountable all officials responsible for abuses against Syrian citizens in Sweida Governorate.
They expressed support for all efforts to establish security, state sovereignty, and the rule of law in Sweida and across all Syrian territory, condemning violence, sectarianism, and attempts to sow discord, incitement, and hatred.
Furthermore, the ministers condemned and rejected repeated Israeli aggressions against the Syrian Arab Republic, deeming them a blatant violation of international law and a flagrant assault on Syria's sovereignty.
They stated that these attacks destabilize Syria's security, stability, territorial integrity, and its citizens, undermining the Syrian government's efforts to build a new Syria that meets the aspirations and choices of its fraternal people.
The ministers underscored that Syria's security and stability are a cornerstone of regional security and stability, and a shared priority.
They called on the international community to support the Syrian government in the reconstruction process and urged the UN Security Council to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities to ensure Israel's full withdrawal from occupied Syrian territories, halt all Israeli hostile acts against Syria and interference in its affairs, and implement Resolution 2766 and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
