PDMA Issues Flood Alert As Indus River Swells From Tarbela Dam Discharge


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued a flood alert, warning that low-lying areas along the Indus River could face inundation due to increased water discharge from Tarbela Dam.

According to officials, spillways at Tarbela were opened after the water level rose significantly, causing river flow to surge between 260,000 and 270,000 cusecs. District administrations, rescue agencies, and relevant departments have been placed on high alert to manage any emergency.

The PDMA has urged the public to avoid riverbanks and low-lying areas, advising fishermen, herders, and residents near the river to relocate to safer places. Parents are asked to keep children away from rivers and streams, and tourists are instructed to follow all official safety guidelines.

Citizens are urged not to pay attention to rumors and to rely solely on updates from official sources. For emergencies, the PDMA helpline 1700 remains active. The authority assures the public it is fully prepared to deal with any developing situation.
