Türkiye Condemns French Criticism of Its Judiciary

(MENAFN) The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a stern rebuke on Monday in response to a recent declaration from France’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, which had condemned judicial developments taking place in Türkiye.

In an official response, the ministry denounced the French statement, calling it "an interference in the ongoing judicial processes in our country."

The ministry stressed that Türkiye operates as a democratic state under the rule of law, ensuring "fair and impartial" legal procedures for all its citizens.

It emphasized that the current legal cases are being managed by autonomous judicial authorities in full compliance with the nation’s Constitution and relevant laws.

Highlighting what it views as inconsistency in the French stance, the ministry pointed out that "the leader of France’s main opposition party has been sentenced to imprisonment by a court decision, consequently being rendered ineligible to stand for election," and also noted that legal investigations involving certain French mayors are still underway.

The ministry stated that such facts illustrate a clear case of double standards in France's criticism.

Furthermore, Türkiye called on the French government to respect its judicial independence and to refrain from making "politically motivated" remarks about the domestic matters of sovereign nations.

The statement concluded with pointed advice: "We advise France to respect Türkiye’s domestic legal system and judicial independence, refrain from politically motivated statements regarding other countries, and instead focus on addressing its own internal matters."
