UK Imposes New Sanctions On Russia Over Use Of Chemical Weapons In Ukraine
The new restrictions target two individuals, including Aleksey Rtishchev, the head of Russia's Radiological Chemical and Biological Defense Troops, and his deputy, Andrei Marchenko. Both command units that have been involved in the use of chemical weapons in Ukraine.
As a result, their assets in the United Kingdom will be frozen, and they are banned from entering the country.
In addition, the Russian Scientific Research Institute of Applied Chemistry has been added to the sanctions list.
Read also: UK contributes GBP 400,000 to support OPCW activities in UkraineAccording to the UK government, the institute provided RG-Vo riot control agent grenades to the Russian military which have been used as a method of warfare against Ukraine in contravention of the Chemical Weapons Convention.
On May 20, the EU Council also adopted additional restrictive measures targeting three Russian entities involved in the development and use of chemical weapons in the war against Ukraine.
