Horror in Haiti: Gang Kills at Least 50 People
(MENAFN) Reports emerging Friday detail a horrific attack in the central Haitian town of Preval, where an armed gang reportedly killed at least 50 people, including children. Witnesses described the event as a massacre involving the torching of homes, the raiding of a church, and the killing of civilians.
A particularly shocking detail involves the death of 86-year-old pastor Jocques Brutus, who was "reportedly beheaded by attackers at the Maranatha Church."
According to a witness who spoke with a Spanish news outlet, “At least 50 bodies were found. Reaching the massacre site is almost impossible because the gangs still hold control. Fourteen of the bodies were found decapitated and burned.”
Initial reports suggest the gang responsible may be operating under the name “Self-Defense Coalition.”
The Haitian Bishops’ Conference conveyed their “deep sorrow” regarding the brutal killings and called upon authorities to respond swiftly.
Haiti is currently grappling with a worsening crisis, with much of the capital, Port-au-Prince, under gang control, and over 11 million people facing food insecurity. UN figures indicate that more than 5,600 people were killed in gang violence in Haiti in 2024.
