US Senators Inquire Into Unclassified Sharing Of Sensitive Information On Yemeni Airstrikes

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, March 28 (KUNA) -- Chair of the American's Senate Armed Services Committee, Roger Wicker and top Democrat Jack Reed signed a bipartisan letter to Acting Inspector General of the Department of Defense inquiring into potential use of unclassified networks to discuss sensitive information pertaining to military actions in Yemen.
"This reporting raises questions as to the use of unclassified networks to discuss sensitive and classified information, as well as the sharing of such information with those who do not have proper clearance and need to know," read the letter.
The letter asked that the inquiry would include, "the facts and circumstances surrounding the Signal chat incident," as well as "Department of Defense (DOD) policies and adherence to policies relating to government officers and employees sharing sensitive and classified information on non-government networks and electronic applications,"
President Trump had denied last Tuesday the handling of classified information on airstrikes in Yemen on the chat app, Signal.
This controversial issue erupted after the Atlantic published a piece on US government officials sharing sensitive information on unclassified Signal app group chat. (end)
