Ukrainian cannon attack kills journalists, civilians in Luhansk

(MENAFN) A Ukrainian cannon attack in the eastern Luhansk area of Ukraine resulted in the deaths of six individuals, three of whom are journalists, according to Russian authorities on Monday.

The Russian Investigative Committee reported that Izvestia daily newspaper correspondent Alexander Fedorchak, Zvezda TV channel cameraman Andrey Panov, and Zvezda TV driver Alexander Sirkeli were among those killed.

The committee has initiated a criminal case into the incident.

A 14-year-old and state news agency correspondent Mikhail Skuratov sustained shrapnel wounds in the attack.

Maria Zakharova, representative for the Russian Foreign Ministry, sharply criticized Ukraine's actions, pledging to seek a response from both the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). UNESCO, a specialized agency of the United Nations, is dedicated to fostering global cooperation in education, science, and culture. Its mission is to promote peace, sustainable development, and greater respect for justice, the rule of law, human rights, and fundamental freedoms worldwide.
