Russia calls for resumption of Gaza ceasefire agreement

(MENAFN) On Thursday, Russia urged mediators involved in the war on Gaza to take more effective actions to promote a resumption of peace negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians and reinstate the ceasefire agreement reached on January 15.

During a news meeting in Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry representative Maria Zakharova emphasized that maintaining stability in Gaza depends on all parties adhering to the ceasefire deal mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the US. This deal was reached to put an end to hostilities between Israel and Hamas and enable prisoner swap.

Zakharova reported: "A return to these agreements would create the necessary conditions for a ceasefire, the delivery of urgent humanitarian aid to Gaza’s residents, and the launch of reconstruction efforts in the region."

She reiterated Russia’s dedication to collaborating with all stakeholders to stabilize the Israeli-Palestinian war and advance expanded peace efforts in the Middle East.

She further stressed: "We expect mediators to make additional efforts to bring Israelis and Palestinians back to the negotiating table."
