Turkey's Atmaca targets submerged point with high precision

(MENAFN) On Wednesday, Turkish Defense Industries Secretary Haluk Gorgun declared that Turkey’s indigenously designed and manufactured anti-ship cruise guided weapon, Atmaca, has successfully concluded its inaugural submerged firing test.

In a post on X, Gorgun stated: "Atmaca, the steel sword of the Blue Homeland, will now hit its target from under the sea."

He further emphasized: "We have confirmed the underwater guided missile firing capability, which is possessed by only a few countries in the world, with today's Atmaca firing test. Atmaca, which was fired from a submarine, successfully completed its flight.”

He also noted: "The Turkish defense industry is moving forward for a fully independent future on land, air, and sea."

Atmaca was meticulously crafted between 2009 and 2018 by the esteemed Turkish defense firm Roketsan, and was officially integrated into the arsenal of the Turkish military in 2021.

Developed as a precision-guided anti-ship weapon, the missile was created to adhere to the operational demands of naval combat and is adaptable for use on swift attack boats, destroyers, and smaller warships.

The recent test has also equipped the Atmaca missile with the ability to be launched by underwater vessels and effectively engage targets beneath the surface of the water.
