7 People In 3 Provinces Jailed, Publicly Lashed: SC

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Supreme Court says seven people in three provinces have been sentenced to prison terms and lashes for different crimes.

In separate statements, the apex court said it upheld the decision of the First Court of Chahab District of Takhar province, convicting three people accused of adultery to jails terms and lashes.

The first court had sentenced two of the accused to six months of imprisonment and 39 lashes and another person to one year of imprisonment and 39 lashes.

The Supreme Court said the First Court of Prevention of Narcotics and Intoxicants of Kabul had sentenced a person accused of producing and consuming alcoholic beverages to two years of imprisonment and 39 lashes, which was enforced after the Supreme Court's approval.

The Supreme Court also wrote the first court of Spinghar district of Nangarhar had sentenced three people accused of sodomy from one to two years of imprisonment and 39 lashes each and the ruling was enforced after the Supreme Court confirmed it.

Yesterday, the Supreme Court said it convicted three people in Kabul province over buying and selling drugs.
