Taliban Says British Couple Was Arrested Due To 'Misunderstanding'


(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Abdul Mateen Qani, the spokesperson for the Taliban Ministry of Interior, has announced that a British couple was arrested in a“misunderstanding” related to having fake Afghanistan passports.

He, confirmed to Khaama Press on Tuesday, February 25 that, based on certain considerations, four individuals have been detained: two British nationals who hold Afghan identification and passports, a Chinese-American national, and their translator.

Meanwhile, report indicated that the Taliban spokesperson mentioned efforts to release the British couple.

Abdul Mateen Qani did not provide details about their detention but added that there are considerations, and they will be released after investigations.

Meanwhile, the couple's family has stated that initially, they wanted to give the Taliban an opportunity to explain the reason for the detention, but the group has remained silent for three weeks.

Now, Sarah Entwistle, the couple's daughter, has urged the British Embassy in Afghanistan to pressure the Taliban for their release.

The elderly British citizens were detained on February 2nd of this year in Bamyan for allegedly possessing fake passports.

It has been reported that the couple was working in the education sector in Afghanistan.

The prolonged detention without clear communication has raised concerns and frustrations among the couple's family. The British government's involvement is crucial to ensuring their safe and prompt release.

This incident highlights the challenges faced by foreign nationals working in Afghanistan and the need for clearer channels of communication with the Taliban authorities.
