Jordan, Uzbekistan Discuss Prospects To Expand Relations

Amman, Feb 2 (Petra) -- Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi Sunday welcomed Uzbekistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Bakhtiyor Saidov, who is visiting the Kingdom for the first time at the head of a delegation.
Safadi and Saidov stressed a common interest to deepen relations between the two countries and enhance cooperation in a host of economic, trade, investment, political, and cultural fields, in addition to defense, security and combating terrorism.
They agreed to launch an institutionalized mechanism for Political consultation, which will hold its first meeting this year to determine areas of cooperation and agreements the two countries will sign.
The ministers also discussed the regional situation and efforts to consolidate the ceasefire in Gaza, bring in humanitarian aid, and bring about regional security, stability and peace.
During the meeting, Safadi and Saidov signed a visa exemption agreement for diplomatic passport holders, and a work program for bilateral cooperation in the next two years within the framework of international and regional organizations, international legal cooperation, consular consultations, mutual assistance in exchanging information and expanding its base, and cooperation between information, analysis and research centers.
Saidov and his team will hold talks with the Ministers of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Investment on ways to expand cooperation.
The Uzbek delegation comprises the Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Religious Affairs, the Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Deputy Director of the Office of Muslims of Uzbekistan, the Deputy Director of the Pharmaceutical Development Agency, as well as senior foreign ministry officials.
