Egyptian, US Leaders Discuss Bilateral, Regional Issues


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Feb 1 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi received a phone call from his US counterpart Donald trump on Saturday where they discussed the strategic relations between their two countries.
President Al-Sisi congratulated President Trump on his election for a second term which signaled the trust placed in him by the US people, according to a statement by the Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency Mohammad El-Shennawy.
The cordial conversation dealt with several bilateral and regional issues, notably the successful joint mediation by Egypt, the United States and Qatar which led to the ceasefire-hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas movement.
The two leaders highlighted the importance of completing the first two phases of the deal and holding the ceasefire in place as a prelude to reaching permanent peace in the region, the spokesman noted.
President Al-Sisi invited President Trump to a visit to Egypt as early as possible to strengthen the strategic partnership between both nations and attend the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum.
He stressed the need to continue efforts to find peaceful solutions to the complicated issues of the Middle East.
President Trump, in turn, invited President Al-Sisi to a meeting at the White House at a time deemed convenient for both sides.
Both leaders agreed to pursue contacts and coordination regarding the bilateral and regional issues of common concern, El-Shennawy added. (end)
