Germany’s Scholz describes Musk’s backing for AfD as ‘disgusting’

(MENAFN) German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has expressed strong disapproval of Elon Musk’s endorsement of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party ahead of the upcoming elections, calling it "disgusting." Musk, the founder of SpaceX and Tesla, showed his support for the AfD in a video appearance at the party’s rally, where he encouraged Germans to move past the concept of generational guilt.

Scholz condemned Musk’s comments, particularly his downplaying of Germany's historical responsibility for the Holocaust. He stressed that Germany’s responsibility for its past atrocities should be acknowledged, and criticized Musk for siding with far-right views. Scholz also warned that such actions were harmful to democratic development in both Germany and the EU.

Musk, who has often clashed with Scholz, has endorsed AfD’s Alice Weidel for chancellor and expressed concerns about multiculturalism, asserting that national pride should not be overshadowed by guilt for past wrongs. While the AfD has gained traction, Scholz and his allies have labeled the party’s views as far-right, although they have not pursued an outright ban.
