Blinken To Begin Mideast Mission Shortly


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will begin a Middle East tour including Jordan and Turkiye in the next hours to discuss Syria and Lebanon and Gaza with leaders of the regional countries.
The State Department said on Wednesday that Blinken would meet Jordanian officials in the city of Aqaba and would hold talks with the Turkish leaders in Ankara regarding the latest developments in Syria, Lebanon and the whole Middle East.
Blinken, during the tour, will affirm the US support for inclusive transfer of power in Syria and will stress on the necessity of forming a new government in Syria that respects rights of the minorities and abstain from hampering humanitarian aid.
He will also stress on the necessity to foil any bid to render Syria a hub for terrorism, or pose a threat to its neighbors and ensure security of the chemical weapons and protecting the relocated during the transitional period.
On Gaza, Blinken will discuss the dire need for making a deal to cease fighting and ensure release of the prisoners, as well as facilitating delivery of humanitarian aid. He will also underline necessity fo halt hostilities across southern Lebanon. (end)
