Jordan To Promote Umm Al-Jimal After Joining UNESCO World Heritage List-Qaisi

Amman, July 27 (Petra) -The archaeological site of Umm al-Jimal was listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, which reflects Jordan's historical and cultural diversity, as many civilizations flourished on the Kingdom's land over the ages.
During its 46th meeting held in India Friday, UNESCO World Heritage Committee announced inclusion of Umm al-Jimal as the 7th Jordanian site on the UNESCO World Heritage List, which includes Petra, Qusayr Amra, Umm ar-Rasas, Wadi Rum, Baptism Site and al-Salt.

Minister of
tourism and Antiquities, Makram Qaisi, said this is a "remarkable" achievement for Jordan, noting that Umm al-Jimal is the 7th archaeological site to join the list, and the 5th during His Majesty King Abdullah II's reign.
In remarks to "Petra," Qaisi noted the achievement will raise the value of the site globally and also contribute to increase the number of visitors, noting that Ministry of Tourism will organize "major" promotional campaigns, aimed to attract tourists and investors, develop the site's infrastructure and facilities.
Qaisi added that the ministry will work to invite local and international investors to invest in the site within awareness events, aimed to develop the region's tourism and infrastructure, calling on citizens, media and hotel managers to learn about the site's existing and new facilities, which are "ready" to receive visitors.
Locally, he noted the need to focus on informing Jordanians of the site's importance, then attracting foreign investments under "comprehensive" promotion campaigns and presenting the area as an "attractive" tourist destination.
The minister also praised efforts made by national institutions in preparing the nomination file, which highlights importance of joint cooperation among the various sides.
