ADB, Futurewater To Launch New Project To Assess Turkmenistan's Climate Change Adaptation


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 25. The Asian Development bank (ADB) and FutureWater consulting company are preparing to launch a new project to assess the extent of Turkmenistan's adaptation to climate change, Trend reports.

According to the official source, in this regard, the delegation of ADB and FutureWater visited Ashgabat to hold meetings and consultations with specialists from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan, as well as the State Committee for Water Resources.

The aim was to establish scientific and practical cooperation within the framework of the new project.

The proposed project will include tasks such as strengthening institutional and legislative processes, measures to adapt to climate change, mitigation strategies (reducing greenhouse gas emissions), digitalization in the water sector, and the promotion of space technologies.

Furthermore, the project aims to facilitate the identification and conceptualization of initiatives aimed at adaptation to climate change, in particular, to increase the sustainability of the water and agricultural sectors of Turkmenistan, which involves the creation of risk maps related to climate change.

Meanwhile, FutureWater, based in the Netherlands and Spain, is a global research and consulting organization specializing in combining scientific research with practical solutions in the field of water management.

The organization's work spans the global, national, and local levels, collaborating on projects aimed at addressing important issues such as water for food production, irrigation, excess and shortage of water, the effects of climate change, and integrated river basin management.
