ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 25. Turkmenistan
and Pakistan discussed the possibilities of further promoting the
implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India
(TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project, Trend
reports.
According to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, this topic was
discussed during a meeting in Islamabad between the Deputy Chairman
of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of
Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the Minister of energy (Petroleum
Division) of Pakistan, Musadik Masood Malik.
During the meeting, the parties discussed priority issues of
cooperation between the two countries in the fuel and energy
sector, in particular the possibility of further promoting the
implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India
(TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project.
Furthermore, they noted that the implementation of this
large-scale project is designed to promote sustainable
socio-economic development in Asia.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed confidence in
the further progressive development of bilateral cooperation in the
context of solving specific issues related to the practical
implementation of this energy project.
Meanwhile, Turkmenistan's Turkmengaz State Concern has completed
the construction of a 214-kilometer section of the gas pipeline
passing through Turkmen territory and has fully prepared it for
operation.
It is expected that the TAPI gas pipeline will annually
transport 33 billion cubic meters of natural gas along an
1800-kilometer route from Turkmen Galkynysh, the second largest gas
field in the world, to the Indian city of Fazilka, located near the
border of India with Pakistan.
