OCHA: Nearly 26 Mil. People In Sudan Are Acutely Hungry

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) NEW YORK, July 24 (KUNA) - The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) expressed concern over the worsening food situation in Sudan, where almost 26 million people are acutely hungry.
UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a press conference on Tuesday that 750,000 people of those 26 million are just one step away from famine, which translates as Integrated Food Security (IPC) classification 5.
He added that the humanitarian community in Sudan urgently needs access via all possible routes to avert a further deterioration of the situation and an additional funding as this year's humanitarian appeal for Sudan is just over 30 percent funded. (end)
