Breathing Hazard: The Hidden Dangers Of Air Pollution

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) Have you ever considered that the air we breathe might be making us sick? If not, let me enlighten you about the diseases, damages, and causes stemming from polluted air in this blog.

In the past, Pakistan's air was pure. Rivers, streams, canals, mountains, cities, villages, fields, and the sky were all beautiful. When we were young, the sky was so blue and clear that one could gaze at it endlessly. The air was so clean that stars in the sky were visible and bright, guiding people through the night.

Nowadays, when I look at the sky at night, it seems as if it's covered in dust. Unfortunately, our environment is no longer as pure as it once was. Due to human actions, the air has become toxic. The sky is no longer blue, and neither are the fields, streams, and canals as they used to be.

So, what diseases are caused by this toxic air? As soon as we step outside, we start coughing, and our noses and eyes begin to water. Moreover, polluted air leads to respiratory diseases, lung issues, asthma, allergies, and diseases affecting the eyes, throat, and skin.

Did you know that 7 million deaths worldwide are attributed to polluted air each year? This alarming fact was highlighted by UN Secretary-General António Guterres in September 2023 during his speech on the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies.

As the population grows, so does the number of vehicles, resulting in increased emissions of diesel, petrol, and gas. Vehicle emissions have significantly polluted the air, making it almost impossible to go out without covering our noses. Additionally, the smoke from kilns and factories is extremely toxic. This smoke is so black and poisonous that it is visible on the skin. Imagine the condition of the workers at these sites.

Fog is another significant contributor to polluted and toxic air. Previously, the fog was not as dense. Nowadays, fog has become dangerously toxic. Last winter, breathing in the fog was difficult due to its severity.

One of the main reasons for toxic air is deforestation. As time changes, people from villages are moving towards cities, requiring land, leading to the cutting down of trees. This deforestation is tragic, as trees provide us with free oxygen. Imagine if oxygen were sold, what would be the condition of the poor?

Unfortunately, people do not understand the importance of trees. Additionally, due to inflation, people are cutting down and selling trees for income. At this rate, it won't be long before the air becomes even more toxic.

Garbage is being thrown everywhere without proper disposal, creating foul odors and making the air dirty. It's hard to find a clean path free of trash. During storms or strong winds, particles from this garbage enter our eyes, mouths, and throats, causing respiratory and throat diseases. It is better to dispose of this trash properly, or it will continue to cause diseases.

Please work hard to keep your surroundings clean. Toxic and polluted air has become a global issue that needs to be addressed collectively.

Start by planting more trees in your home. The government should ban vehicles that emit excessive smoke. Garbage should be disposed of promptly to prevent foul odors from contaminating the air.

We all need to work together on this issue, or we will face significant consequences.
