Air India Operates Relief Flight From Mumbai To Fly Passengers Stranded At Krasnoyarsk Airport In Russia


(MENAFN- Live Mint) Air India on Friday said that its relief flight AI1179 from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai to Krasnoyarsk International Airport (KJA) in Russia is now airborne, and is expected to arrive at KJA at 2000 hours (local time) on 19 July 2024.

Taking to microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter), the airline shares a statement stating that“ An Air India team, including crew and security personnel, are on board the flight to provide any support that the passengers and staff at KJA may require."

The flight is carrying essentials in addition to sufficient food for all passengers.

"The ferry flight is carrying essentials in addition to sufficient amount of food for all passengers. The aircraft will ferry all passengers and crew out of KJA at the earliest,” Air India said.

Earlier in the day, the carrier said that regulatory clearances has been obtained for a relief flight, which would depart from Mumbai to fly the stranded passengers from the Russian airport.

The airline has also set up a dedicated hotline for the family, relatives, and friends of AI183 guests for any information they may require:

The airline also informed that,“Air India's local support was activated to assist passengers, who were required by authorities to remain in the terminal building in the absence of Russian visas. Food and beverage amenities at the terminal, which were closed for the evening, have now opened, and meals are being provided to all passengers.”

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Moscow said a team of three senior officials and interpreters are at Krasnoyarsk to assist the passengers of the Air India flight that made an emergency landing at Krasnoyarsk last night.

The team is coordinating with airport and security authorities and Representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry to provide all possible assistance to the passengers, the Indian Embassy added.

An Air India plane flying from Delhi to San Francisco made a precautionary landing in the Russian region of Siberia after the crew detected a potential issue in the cargo hold area. It was the second time in a little over a year that an Air India flight on the same route made an unscheduled landing in Russia.
