(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 19. The Azerbaijani press is developing on a solid foundation, said Daghbeyi Ismayilov, chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Media Development Agency of Azerbaijan, Trend reports.

He made this statement at an event dedicated to the 149th anniversary of the establishment of the press in Azerbaijan.

Ismayilov noted that the Akinchi newspaper was first published 149 years ago, and the Azerbaijani press is growing on the solid foundation laid by Hasan bey Zardabi.

“National leader Heydar Aliyev made significant contributions to the development of the press in Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani press faced many constraints along the way. The Press Council, established by the decision of the First Congress of Journalists of Azerbaijan, played a crucial role in the development of media in Azerbaijan. As a result of measures taken in this field, the debts of print media to publishing houses in Azerbaijan were written off.

Today, the Azerbaijani people are a victorious nation. Azerbaijan achieved victory in the Second Karabakh War thanks to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. Approximately one year after the war, a decree was signed to accelerate reforms in the field of media. Serious reforms in this sphere began with the establishment of the Media Development Agency,” he added.
