Orban requests from EU to speak with Russia

(MENAFN) Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has reached out to Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, advocating for renewed discussions with Russia and the inclusion of China in peace negotiations aimed at resolving the Ukraine conflict, as reported by Bild on Monday. This appeal follows Orban's extensive "peace mission" tour, which included visits to Ukraine, Russia, China, and the United States.

In his letter, Orban provided a comprehensive summary of his dialogues with key leaders, including those from Russia, Ukraine, China, and Turkey, as well as Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump. The letter also contained several proposals for Michel's consideration. Orban expressed grave concerns about the escalating military conflict in Ukraine, predicting a significant intensification in the near future. He urged Michel to engage China in organizing a 'peace conference' and to renew diplomatic relations with Russia.

Orban further emphasized the need for a "political offensive" in the Global South, highlighting that many countries in this region are disillusioned with the European Union's current stance on the Ukraine conflict. He suggested that the European Union's approach was not resonating well with these nations, and a shift in strategy was necessary to gain their support.

Additionally, Orban expressed skepticism about United States President Joe Biden's ability to change the current United States pro-war policy. He noted that if Donald Trump were to be reelected, Trump would be ready to act as a peace mediator immediately. According to Orban, Trump has detailed and well-founded plans to end the conflict swiftly.

The letter also mentioned that Trump, who recently survived an assassination attempt, has pledged to end the hostilities between Moscow and Kiev within 24 hours if he is elected. This bold promise underscores Trump's confidence in his ability to broker peace in the region.
