India’s new military leader unveils force’s top priorities

(MENAFN) India's newly appointed Chief of army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, has underscored the urgent need for the Indian Army to equip its personnel with cutting-edge weaponry and continuously update its strategic plans to address potential threats. In his first public address since taking office as the 30th Chief of the Indian Army, Dwivedi emphasized the unique operational challenges faced by the armed forces amidst a rapidly changing geopolitical environment and advancing technology.

During a press conference following a ceremony in New Delhi, General Dwivedi articulated the importance of adapting to the evolving security landscape. “To remain prepared for such threats and distinctive requirements, it is crucial that we continuously equip our soldiers with state-of-the-art weapons and technology and continue to evolve our war-fighting strategies,” he stated.

He reassured the public that the Indian Army is fully capable of meeting both current and future challenges, particularly concerning border disputes with nuclear-armed neighbors, China and Pakistan. Additionally, he highlighted the ongoing counter-terrorism operations in regions such as Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast, indicating a broad focus on national security.

Dwivedi's remarks are set against the backdrop of global conflicts, including those in Ukraine and the Middle East. In light of these developments, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had previously urged the armed forces to prepare for “unconventional and asymmetric warfare, including hybrid war,” particularly in response to the volatile situation in Gaza.

General Dwivedi's commitment to modernization and strategic evolution reflects India's intent to maintain its military readiness and adapt to the complexities of modern warfare, ensuring the protection and security of the nation in a changing world.
