Russia advances in eastern Ukraine, joint military exercises with China

(MENAFN) Russia has reported significant military advancements in eastern Ukraine, announcing the capture of the village of Oruzhen in Donetsk by units of the Vostok Group of Forces. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that its forces moved northward along the Mokry Yali River, consolidating control within Ukrainian defensive lines. This development marks a continuation of Russia's ground offensive following Ukrainian setbacks, including the loss of Avdiivka earlier this year.

In a related development, Alexander Bogomaz, governor of Russia's Bryansk region, disclosed via Telegram that Russian air defense systems intercepted and destroyed a Ukrainian drone over the Pochepsky area. The incident reportedly caused no casualties or material damage, with emergency services promptly responding to the scene.

Meanwhile, China's Defense Ministry announced joint military exercises conducted by the Chinese and Russian navies in the Pacific Ocean. This marks the fourth such joint operation, spanning the western and northern Pacific Oceans. The statement from China emphasized that these exercises were unrelated to current international tensions, including the conflict in Ukraine or disputes in the South China Sea. The exercises were framed as routine military cooperation between the two nations.

The developments underscore escalating tensions in Ukraine and broader geopolitical maneuvers involving Russia and China, prompting international scrutiny and concern over regional stability and security dynamics.
