In a significant two-day conclave in New Delhi, U.S. Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti emphasised the deepening ties between the United States and India, particularly in the realm of defence and security.

The event, titled "U.S.-India defence News Conclave: Stories of U.S-India defence and Security Partnership," brought together key stakeholders to discuss the future of this crucial bilateral relationship.

Ambassador Garcetti, in his keynote address, stressed that both nations see their futures intertwined, with commerce, technology, people, and security at the core of this partnership.

"Our relationship is not a bet, it is a commitment and friendship that is true, tried, and is tested," Garcetti stated, underscoring the long-term nature of the alliance.

The conclave, organised by the U.S. Mission to India in collaboration with CUTS International, the United Service Institution of India, and the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum, covered a wide range of topics. These included historical ties, current initiatives, and future growth areas in defence cooperation.

Notably, discussions centred on maritime security, space cooperation, and the development of a modern defence industrial ecosystem. Rear Admiral Michael Baker, Defence Attaché of the U.S. Embassy, highlighted the importance of joint capabilities in deterring conflict, while Vishesh Negi from India's Ministry of Defence emphasised the natural partnership between the two nations in the 21st century.

The event also addressed the critical role of media in shaping public perceptions and countering misinformation about the bilateral defence collaborations.

Gloria Berbena, Minister Counsellor for Public Diplomacy at the U.S. Embassy New Delhi, stressed the need for transparency in the security partnership to foster public trust and accountability.

Industry experts called for faster integration of private players from both countries to create a win-win partnership. Mukesh Aghi, President and CEO of USISPF, urged for quicker processes to drive economic growth in both democracies.

As the largest democracies in the world, the U.S. and India's strengthening partnership is seen as a cornerstone for regional stability and global security.

The conclave concluded with a forward-looking agenda, emphasising joint production, technology collaboration, and multilateral cooperation through frameworks like the Quad.

This event marks a significant step in demystifying and strengthening the U.S.-India defence relationship, setting the stage for enhanced cooperation in an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape.
